
Ark Group is proud to bring you KM Australia 2008. Based on current research and the input of the KM, CM and IM communities, KM Australia 2008 has been designed to specifically address a range of crucial issues in the evolving disciplines of knowledge, content and information management.
Our international keynotes will delve into the opportunities and challenges presented by collaborative working, the semantic web, Web 2.0. and information architecture, providing up to date information on advances in these areas.
Practitioner case studies will lend real-life experience to the event, providing further insights in the distinct conference streams, “Knowledge, culture and collaboration” and “Content strategy and digital cultures”. Sponsor sessions will also take a case study approach, illuminating the practical approaches applied in specific client situations.

Keynote Speakers:
Gene Smith is a consultant specialising in information architecture strategy, social classification like tagging and folksonomies, emergent information architecture and interaction design. He is the author of Tagging: People-Powered Metadata for the Social Web (2008, New Riders), which covers the structure, design and management of tagging systems (and delves into other social software topics as well). As a principal at nForm User Experience, he's advised clients like Comcast, Ancestry.com and the Canadian Patient Safety Institute. Through conference presentations and online publication Gene has helped define social information architecture, an emerging field that looks at how user interactions create structure in information spaces.

| Jeff Kelly is a teacher, speaker, and writer focused on the nexus of business strategy, technology and individual performance. In addition to his independent work, Jeff is the Director of Educational Solutions for Web 2.0 University™. Jeff came to W2U from AOL to improve and expand their learning and development programs. Jeff takes W2U’s extensive business and technology knowledge and builds immersive learning products that help organisations understand topics such as Web 2.0, Enterprise 2.0, and Social Computing.
His unique understanding of the content brings results-based practicality to learning and performance improvement products. An unrepentant computer geek, Jeff has been developing dynamic Web-based applications for over ten years and developing business-driven learning and performance improvement solutions for over 15 years. Jeff has a B.S. in Biology from Purdue University and a M.A. in Educational Technology Leadership from George Washington University.

Dan Connolly is a Research Scientist in the Decentralized Information Group (DIG) at MIT. He began collaborating across the Internet with Tim Berners-Lee on the World Wide Web project in the early 1990s, and has since worked tirelessly to preserve HTML as an open standard for the Web. Dan played leading roles in the development of URIs, HTTP, XML, and the Semantic Web and currently serves on the W3C Technical Architecture Group (TAG).

Thomas N. Friemel is a Research Scientist at the Institute of Mass Communication and Media Research at the University of Zurich, and also a Lecturer at the University of Bale and the Swiss School of Public Health.
He has conducted research on SNA, interpersonal communication, political knowledge and decision making, health communication and media effects.
In 2006 and 2007 he served as Conference Chair at the international conference on Applications of Social Network Analysis. Thomas is the Editor of two books focusing upon this SNA.
Prior to his academic career, Thomas N. Friemel worked as a Business Analyst for UBS, an IT specialist for Swiss Telecom, and gained several years of experience in management consulting and public relations.

Hideo Yamazaki is Senior Researcher of IT Management Consulting for the Government Divison at Nomura Research Institute. He is also Managing Director of Knowledge Management Society of Japan.
Hideo read economics and graduated from Tokyo University 1972.Recently, Hideo engaged with social networking and metaverse- based knowledge Management for Japanese companies.
His element is in research and consulting with the IT-network based community, of practice building and operation.
